Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6
As a ministry we realised a number of years ago the serious implications on the children of believers and their education. They can no longer be part of the state education system which is often operated through local Mosques and is focused on Islamic teaching and doctrine. There is also a safety risk to the children and their parents in being identified as Christian, which means they are apostate in the minds of the Muslim community.
We therefore established an education programme for our own children to ensure they can continue to receive the basics in education to develop numeracy and literacy skills alongside other education programmes. It also means that the children can receive teaching in the Christian faith. Many children have been able to enter this programme but many more are waiting for the opportunity. This can be a significant pressure on parents as older children in particular blame their parents for becoming Christian and denying them access to education and the damage this will do to their future prospects for life and work.
We have very limited resources to engage more teachers, and provide teaching materials. There are no public access points to teaching materials, such as libraries, that parents can access to help with developing basic skills in their own children. We know that we can help more children if we had resources and we know that educating our children will be a blessing in many important aspects of their lives.
We are so thankful for the provision we have been blessed with so far, and we continue to seek prayers and support so that all our children can receive the education they deserve and also help them to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
